Mr. Md. Tanvirul Islam (24 and
half), son of Mr. Mozibar Rahman, a Bangladeshi student
studying at the Central Queensland University, Sydney
Campus has been diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia
and has been undergoing treatment at The Prince Henry
and The Prince of Wales Hospital in Sydney from 21
September 2005. The treatment for this condition is at
least 6 months of chemotherapy and he may require a bone
marrow transplant which will require members from his
family to come from Bangladesh to donate matching
healthy tissue. For his treatment, he would require huge
sums of money. Mr. Islam came to Australia on a Student
Visa in 2002. He was due to renew his Visa on 3rd July
2005. At this stage, however, he was probably in the
early stages of this disease and he failed to renew his
Visa and now, as a consequence, has no visa or medical
cover. He was insured with Medibank Private and is
medical cover ceased when his visa expired. He was

authority is trying to arrange a 'Medical Visa' for him
and trying to arrange a tourist visa for his father. He
needs immediate financial assistance for all these
